Chapter 4 recap
- Observations: A (state and colour) reacts with B (state and colour) to form C (state and colour) and D (state and colour).
- Oxidants: MnO₄⁻ → Mn²⁺ purple → colourless · Cr₂O₇²⁻ → Cr³⁺ orange → green · Fe³⁺ → Fe²⁺ orange → pale green · Cl₂, Br₂, I₂ → colourless halide ions.
- Reductants: metals dissolve (Cu → blue Cu²⁺) · Fe²⁺ → Fe³⁺ pale green → pale yellow · I⁻ → brown I₂. The species that changes shows what was oxidised or reduced.
